Forensics.......

Forensic Architecture
Forensic Architecture includes the investigation and analysis of existing
structures. Forensic applications in buildings are typically implemented
due to varying degrees of damage and or failures to building components.
This may include water intrusion inside of the building envelope, failure of
structural elements, damage by fire or inclement weather. Forensic
investigations are also performed for establishing building maintenance
programs, facility audits and life-cycle costs analysis.

Application
Forensic Architecture is a crucial component commonly utilized in architectural
and construction related disputes. Beginning with a comprehensive
condition survey, the existing conditions are investigated and analyzed based
upon the damage and or failures involved. Destructive testing is sometimes
necessary to ascertain specific information regarding covered materials and
components. Special testing is sometimes performed when certain factors
are involved. These tests may include hazardous material tests for ACMs
(asbestos containing materials), lead-base paint and mold. Other tests
sometimes performed include sound-proofing tests of tenant separation walls and
floor-ceiling assemblies, water tests of windows and doors, and material
testing. The types and amount of testing required is typically determined
throughout the condition survey process as additional information becomes
available.

Document and Data Management
Upon completion of the forensic investigation process, data management and
analysis becomes the focus. A forensic investigation on a multi-building
project for example can result in thousands of photographs, hours of video, hundreds of pages of
notes and multiple material samples. Adhering to strict guidelines
regarding document management, preservation of evidence and chain-of-custody is
vital to ensuring accurate findings and conclusions.

AAG Forensics
The Architectural Alliance Group has performed forensic investigations and
analysis on over one-million square feet of existing buildings. These
investigations have been performed in the context of legal disputes, insurance
claims, facility audits and controlled maintenance.

Repair Implementation
The Architectural Alliance Group brings a unique approach regarding forensic
architecture in the context of expert witness and litigation support services.
Upon request by the client, AAG will prepare design and construction documents,
incorporating the necessary recommendations for repair. AAG will also
perform construction management and administrative services necessary to ensure
that the repairs are constructed in conformance with the repair plans.
